Mayor Shelly Oberoi suspended four BJP councillors for 15 days due to their “continuous indiscipline” during the monthly House assembly of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) held on Thursday. Meanwhile, the AAP-led MCD managed to pass 18 agendas amidst the commotion.
The chaos began after Oberoi asked BJP’s Raja Iqbal Singh, the leader of the Opposition, to read the agenda. Instead, Singh delivered a speech, raising concerns about the distribution of fake medicines in government hospitals and the alleged non-compliance of MCD with the Supreme Court’s order to de-seal shopping complexes within 100 hours.
Despite the mayor’s attempts to maintain order, Singh continued his speech, prompting BJP councillors to climb on tables and chant slogans. The AAP councillors also engaged in the commotion.
In just 10 minutes, the agendas were passed and the House was adjourned. Mayor Oberoi announced the suspension of four BJP councillors for causing a disturbance. The suspended councillors were Singh, Yogendra Verma, Gajendra Singh, and Ravi Negi.
Addressing a press conference, Mayor Oberoi criticized the behavior of the BJP councillors and mentioned that the House had not been allowed to function peacefully throughout the year.

Amidst the chaos, 18 agendas were passed, four were postponed, and two were referred back in the House. Responding to the allegations, Singh accused the AAP of having no constructive role in the House meeting.
In response, AAP’s Leader of the House, Mukesh Goel, accused the BJP of conspiring to prevent the House from functioning and neglecting the problems of citizens.
