Exciting new features revealed for Android and beyond

At the Mobile World Congress 2024, Google is introducing new features and officially launching some previously mentioned features. Google Messages will have access to Gemini, AI text summaries are coming to Android Auto, and more updates are on the way.

Now, boarding passes can be viewed on Wear OS using Google Wallet, and public transit directions are available on Google Maps for Wear OS.

During MWC 2024, Google has announced exciting updates for Android and its ecosystem. Notable features include Gemini integration with Google Messages, AI text summaries for Android Auto, and surprise appearances from Gemini.

Google Messages will now support Gemini within the app, allowing users to draft messages, plan events, brainstorm ideas, and more. The feature will be available in beta and limited to English language for now.

Android Auto is introducing a text summarization feature using AI to help drivers stay informed without taking their eyes off the road. The feature summarizes messages and group chats, suggests relevant replies, and actions for safe driving.

Google Docs now has a markup feature, allowing users to add handwritten annotations using their fingers or a stylus on Android devices. The feature includes different pen colors and highlighters for feedback on documents.

Android’s output switcher now supports Spotify Connect devices for easy music playback switching. The Fitbit app on Android can display data from Health Connect-compatible apps like AllTrails, Oura Ring, and MyFitnessPal alongside Fitbit data.

Wear OS smartwatches now officially support viewing boarding passes, event tickets, gym memberships, and loyalty cards through Google Wallet. Google Maps for Wear OS now offers public transit directions for convenient navigation on the go.

Lens in Maps now has enhanced screen reader support for visually impaired users. Lookout on Android is rolling out AI-generated captions globally for a better image description experience.
