Filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor has shared details about his legal battle with actor Sara Ali Khan, who made her debut in his film Kedarnath in 2018. He mentioned how it was ironic that they were fighting in court while filming at the same time. The movie Kedarnath faced a legal dispute between Abhishek Kapoor and KriArj Entertainment, leading to Sara Ali Khan’s shooting schedule getting disrupted as she had committed her dates to Karan Johar’s Simmba, which starred Ranveer Singh and was directed by Rohit Shetty.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Abhishek Kapoor spoke about the challenges they faced during the legal battle. He mentioned, “Movie making is tough. You have to safeguard your film, even from those who are supposed to support it. There were issues with date clashes due to mismanagement which we couldn’t accept. We had to go to court to sort it out.”
He further explained, “While dealing with financial issues and fighting in court, we had to shoot important scenes with Sara in the evenings. It was a unique situation where we had to balance both court proceedings and filming simultaneously.”
Abhishek Kapoor mentioned that the experience taught them how to compartmentalize things and focus on their work. He appreciated Sara’s dedication and professionalism throughout the challenging period. Kedarnath was released shortly before Simmba, and there were reports of a preference for Simmba to be Sara’s debut film. However, Abhishek Kapoor avoided commenting on this matter.
Praising Sara’s commitment and suitability for the role, he acknowledged her hard work and determination. He emphasized the importance of casting actors based on their fit for the character and their willingness to learn and grow. He commended Sara for her dedication and hunger to excel in her debut film.
