In Android 15, unused notification channels will be hidden by default. Apps can categorize their notifications into channels, allowing users to selectively block channels they don’t like. This upcoming feature will make it easier to manage notifications from apps that create a lot of channels. Android’s notification management system is highly praised for its user-friendly interface and control options.
Google introduced notification channels in Android 8.0, giving apps the ability to organize notifications into categories. This helps users customize their notification preferences and allows developers to ensure their notifications are not disabled completely. While developers have the freedom to create multiple channels, some end up creating too many, leading to a cluttered notification experience. Android 15 will address this issue by hiding unused channels by default.
Currently, Android shows all notification channels created by an app in the Settings menu, making it difficult to manage when there are too many. With the new feature in Android 15, unused channels will be hidden unless specifically toggled on. This change aims to simplify the notification management process for users and improve the overall user experience. While the feature is not yet visible in Android 15 Beta 1, it is likely to be included in the stable update. Stay tuned for more updates on this upcoming feature in Android 15.
