Samsung is reportedly working on incorporating “AI technology” into its smartphones by 2024. This could potentially involve on-device generative AI, which may be introduced in the Galaxy S24 series or the Galaxy Z Fold 6. In the year 2023, ChatGPT emerged as a popular AI innovation, offering extensive advice and solutions to common user queries, presenting them in a concise manner. Samsung aims to ensure that its Galaxy smartphones keep up with this trend and provide added value to users.
During Samsung’s Q3 earnings call, the company announced its plans to introduce “AI technology as a new experience in our devices.” These AI technologies are expected to be available from 2024. Speculations suggest that this might involve on-device generative AI, enabling AI-related tasks to be performed directly on the smartphone without requiring an internet connection. Samsung is said to be developing its own generative AI technology for this purpose. It is also rumored that this technology could be incorporated into the Galaxy S24 or the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
The upcoming Galaxy S24 Ultra is rumored to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Qualcomm has highlighted various AI improvements in this SoC, including up to 98% faster performance and a 40% efficiency boost. Tasks such as generating images from text prompts can now be completed in just one second, compared to over 15 seconds with the previous generation SoC. If the Galaxy S24 Ultra does indeed come equipped with this SoC, it would provide an ideal platform for demonstrating the AI technology that Samsung has developed for the Galaxy smartphone experience. Further details about Samsung’s AI plans are yet to be revealed.
