Niti Aayog: Niti Aayog Meet Held To Make Vizag Growth Hub | Visakhapatnam News

Visakhapatnam: Niti Aayog has recently identified Vizag as one of the pilot cities alongside Mumbai, Surat, and Varanasi for its growth hubs’ initiative.
A regional meeting was conducted here in Visakhapatnam on Monday to discuss the roadmap for making the city a growth engine for the country. The meeting witnessed the participation of Niti Aayog special secretary Anna Roy, Andhra Pradesh state commercial taxes chief commissioner Girija Shankar, Niti Aayog senior adviser Partha Sarathi Reddy, Visakhapatnam district collector Dr A Mallikarjuna, Vizianagaram collector S Naga Lakshmi, Anakapalli collector Ravi Pattanshetti, GVMC commissioner CM Saikanth Varma, etc.Collectors of the remaining coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh attended the meeting in a virtual mode.
Vizag collector Dr Mallikarjuna gave a power point presentation on the growth potential of Vizag. He explained how a robust economic growth strategy can change the face of the city. Commercial taxes chief commissioner Girija Shankar explained the objectives of the meeting.
Niti Aayog special secretary Anna Roy spoke about the initiative and growth drivers. . “A comprehensive planning is needed to reach the growth hub objectives by 2037 and 2047,” said Anna Roy.

He highlighted that at least 300 lives are lost and over 900 people are injured on Vizag city roads each year, impacting the livelihoods of the victims’ families. In Andhra Pradesh, over 8,000 lives are lost annually in road accidents, putting a burden on various departments. Vizag police will prioritize road safety and collaborate with organizations and departments to save lives. Survivors of road accidents also appealed to the public to follow traffic norms for safer roads.
TN rain forecast: Collectors in 27 districts asked to take up precautionary measures
Several districts in Tamil Nadu have declared holidays for schools and colleges due to heavy rainfall. The highest rainfall of 17cm was recorded in Velankanni, followed by Nagapattinam and Karaikal. The state has received a deficit of 14% in rainfall for the period between October 1 and November 14. The government has sent alerts to people living on the banks of the river Vaigai about water release and has positioned NDRF members in various districts for rescue operations. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. Relief centres have been opened across the state.
