After 7 Years Apart, Jada Pinkett Smith Shares the Current Status of her Relationship with Will Smith

Jada Pinkett Smith, the 52-year-old actress, recently had an intimate discussion with Today’s Hoda Kotb about her upcoming memoir, “Worthy,” set to be released on Oct. 17. In the interview, Jada revealed surprising revelations from her book, including her marriage to Will Smith and their separation for the past seven years. Although they were never officially divorced, they have been leading separate lives since 2016. Jada also shared the story of how she and Will met on the set of “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” in the ’90s and knew their relationship was special. Despite rumors throughout the years, Jada clarifies that none of them are true. She explained that they have chosen to maintain their unique arrangement because they are still trying to figure out how to be in a partnership and present that to the public. However, they have made a promise to never allow their marriage to result in a divorce. Jada also opened up about the shocking incident at the 2022 Academy Awards where Will slapped comedian Chris Rock after a joke about Jada. She revealed that she initially thought it was staged and was worried for Will. The true conflict between Chris, Will, and Jada began in 2016 when Jada called for a boycott of the Oscars due to the lack of recognition for actors of color. Chris made jokes about her during his monologue as the host of the ceremony that year. Jada clarified that she meant no harm and there was a misunderstanding between them. Despite being hurt by Chris’ jokes in the past, Jada understands that being in the spotlight comes with its challenges. She also speculated that the false narrative she created in 2020 about her romantic relationship with August Alsina may have contributed to the tension between her and Chris.
