Amit Shah stated that despite the establishment of probe commissions, no significant progress was made in delivering justice for the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. However, since the Narendra Modi government came into power in 2014, an SIT was formed and 300 cases were reopened, leading to the conviction of the guilty parties, he explained.
During a program hosted by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted that justice for the victims of the politically motivated 1984 riots was only accomplished after the assumption of power by the Narendra Modi government. He mentioned the reopening of 300 cases related to the riots after 2014 and the provision of Rs 5 lakh compensation to each victim’s family.
He said, “The riots of 1984 and the brutal killings were politically motivated, and no one was held accountable until the Modi government came to power. No arrests were made, and no one was incarcerated prior to 2014.”
