Mishaal Rahman of Android Authority reports that Google is updating the latest Easter egg game on Android, where players fly a spaceship, to now include planting flags when landing on a planet. Interestingly, this update is currently hidden behind a feature flag, creating a “flag for flags.” Despite this change, it seems that Android 15 will not alter the spaceship Easter egg game significantly from its introduction in Android 14.
Each time Google launches a new version of the Android operating system, they include a fun Easter egg. These Easter eggs typically consist of a mini-game or tool related to a major feature of the new OS. The spaceship Easter egg in the upcoming Android 15 update remains mostly the same as in the previous release, with the addition of planting flags on landed planets.
Players with devices running Android 14 can currently enjoy the hidden spaceship game, where they navigate a ship through space in search of celestial bodies. In Android 14, finding a celestial body increases the “BODIES” counter, but there is no indication on the body itself. Android 15 will address this by planting a yellow flag on visited celestial bodies, enhancing the exploration theme of the game.
To access the Android 15 Easter egg, users can follow the traditional steps: open Settings, navigate to About phone, tap on Android version, and repeatedly tap the field to reveal the logo floating through space. Holding the logo will launch the spaceship game. However, in the latest Android 15 Beta 2.2 version, the ability to plant flags is gated behind a feature flag, which Google finds amusing.
