Two thieves stole thousands of pounds worth of seafood and meat from a butchers in South Australia last week. CCTV footage captured the suspects breaking into a cool storage room adjacent to a butchers at Mount Gambier on the evening of 21 December. The video shows two men approaching the container around 11.15pm, with one of the men using a crowbar to break the door. Once they pried it open, both suspects entered and reappeared carrying bags of produce.
Around $7,000 Australian Dollars (£3,750) worth of seafood and meat was stolen, according to South Australian Police. Shopkeeper Mick Lamond speculated that the culprits were “locals of the area” and likely sorted the stock and put it into a vehicle. In response to the incident, Mr Lamond said, “The trailer was locked when I left [on Thursday night] so when we opened it up this morning I just thought ‘what on earth is going on?'”
Despite the theft, Mr Lamond managed to restock what was stolen as Christmas approached. He added, “Customers have been understanding if we’re short on something.” Seafood is a popular option for Australians during the festive period, especially barbecued prawns.
