Bengaluru police book Union minister Shobha Karandlaje over ‘Tamil Nadu people’ comment on The Rameshwaram Cafe blast
With a directive from the Election Commission of India, the Bengaluru city police have officially filed an FIR against Union minister Shobha Karandlaje. This action comes in response to her statement blaming people from Tamil Nadu for the recent explosion at The Rameshwaram Cafe in the city.
This marks the first instance of such action being taken since the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections schedule. The office of Karnataka’s chief electoral officer lodged a complaint against Karandlaje, who is also the BJP’s candidate for Bangalore North, regarding her controversial remark.
The chief electoral officer shared on X: “Following the ECI directive, the DEO Bangalore has registered an FIR against Ms. Shobha Karandlaje, Union Minister and MP under relevant sections of the RP Act at Cottonpet Police Station, Bengaluru on 21.03.2024.”
