SHILLONG, MAR 8: The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday expressed satisfaction over the joining of opposition All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and former Salmanpara legislator Winnerson D Sangma and hinted that more sitting MLAs would soon join the party.
Winnerson was warmly received by BJP state president Rikman G Momin, along with MLAs AL Hek and Sanbor Shullai, chief spokesperson M Kharkrang, and other party leaders.
Hek emphasized that Winnerson’s joining signals a strong chance for the BJP to win both parliamentary seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He added, “Other former MLAs or current MLAs will also be joining the BJP very soon, so we are eagerly awaiting their entry into the party.”
When asked about the number of TMC MLAs expected to join, Hek replied, “We will have to wait and see.”
Shullai mentioned that the BJP is prepared to offer a warm welcome to TMC leader and former chief minister Mukul Sangma, stating, “We will roll out the red carpet for Dr. Mukul Sangma at the party office.”

Following his formal induction, Winnerson stated that he cannot speak for Dr. Mukul Sangma and his decisions, mentioning, “It is up to him whether he chooses to join or not.”
The former MCS officer expressed his eagerness to serve and provide dedicated service to the people through the BJP platform. He reflected on his political journey, stressing his commitment to serving the community and contributing to the nation’s development through the party.

He also expressed gratitude towards TMC leaders, including Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, as well as Dr. Mukul Sangma, for their kindness. He acknowledged that the political landscape in the state is changing, with the BJP gaining acceptance among the people.
Winnerson mentioned that more individuals are expected to join in the coming days, citing the increasing popularity of the BJP in Garo Hills under Rikman Momin’s leadership.

He expressed confidence that many more individuals would join hands to work towards the growth and success of the party, particularly in the Western region of the state.
