Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged victorious in the Chandigarh mayoral elections, defeating AAP’s Kuldeep Kumar, as reported by news agency PTI.
Manoj Sonkar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 16 votes and claimed the mayor’s post by defeating AAP’s Kuldeep Kumar, who received 12 votes, PTI reported.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court announced on January 24, 2024, that the Chandigarh Mayoral Elections would be held on January 30 and entrusted the responsibility of security to the Chandigarh Police.
The polls, which are being conducted in compliance with the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, hold significant value as members of the opposition INDIA bloc, including Congress and AAP, have joined forces to participate in the elections.
As part of the alliance, AAP is contesting for the mayor’s post while the Congress has fielded candidates for senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor positions.
