The Deputy Chief Minister revealed that the suspect obtained a coupon for Rava Idli from the counter but left without consuming it. He abandoned his bag in the cafe, which reportedly contained the IED.
A minor bomb explosion at Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru resulted in injuries to 10 individuals, with authorities invoking stringent UAPA provisions in response. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed that the explosion was caused by an IED with a timer inside a bag. He stated that a man placed the bag with the device inside the cafe.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar mentioned that the suspect, believed to be around 28 to 30 years old, was captured on CCTV footage.
The Deputy Chief Minister disclosed that the suspect took a coupon but left the cafe without consuming the food. He left behind his bag, which reportedly contained the IED.
Sources indicated that no additional IEDs were found, apart from the one in the bag. CM Siddaramaiah mentioned that the man who left the bag took a token from the cash counter. The cashier is currently being interrogated.
CM Siddaramaiah also mentioned that it is uncertain if this incident was a terrorist act. The investigation is still ongoing.
“The blast was not significant, it was an improvised explosive blast. Such incidents have occurred in the past, which should not be overlooked. We need to understand what really happened. Besides the situation in Mangaluru during the BJP’s governance, similar incidents have not occurred recently. This is the first such incident during our administration,” he added.
Meanwhile, the opposition BJP has called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
On the social media platform ‘X’, BJP state president B Y Vijayendra urged a comprehensive inquiry and stated, ”The government’s negligence in downplaying such crimes is contributing to the state’s chaos and is creating a safe space for antisocial elements… The failure of police intelligence is also evident in this case….” While early suspicions suggested a gas leak triggered the explosion, the Fire department dismissed this possibility and confirmed the presence of a bag at the scene.
