Mishaal Rahman / Android Authority reports that Android 15 will introduce a dedicated audio-sharing page, allowing users to listen in or broadcast audio. This feature, known as Auracast, is a highlight of the new Bluetooth LE Audio standard, enabling users to broadcast audio to multiple nearby devices. While Android has supported Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast since Android 13, Android 15 will offer improved support for these features.
In scenarios where groups want to listen to audio together, Auracast makes it easier by allowing devices to broadcast audio to others without needing to pair. This is a significant improvement over proprietary implementations seen in some smartphones, as Auracast is accessible to any device that implements the technology.
Despite limited current support for Auracast in the market, more devices are expected to adopt this feature with Bluetooth LE Audio becoming standard. Google is preparing for this by introducing an “audio sharing” page in Android 15, where users can connect to or start their own Auracast streams.
Rahman managed to enable the “audio sharing” feature on his Google Pixel 8 Pro running the latest Android 15 Beta 1.1 release. By starting a broadcast, other devices like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 were able to connect. Rahman notes that while there were some issues with connectivity between devices, the overall experience was positive.
The feature allows users to manually set a broadcast name and password or generate a QR code for others to connect to their stream. Once connected, audio is played through multiple devices simultaneously, providing a shared listening experience.
Overall, the launch of Android 15’s audio-sharing feature brings standardized audio sharing over Bluetooth, eliminating the need for specific device compatibility. With more devices supporting Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast, this feature is expected to become more widespread in the market. For tips or inquiries, contact news@androidauthority.com.
