CM Stalin inspects relief camps in Chennai following the deaths of 8 people and closure of subways and roads in Tamil Nadu

The police have reported 8 deaths in the state due to the Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Michaung’. Multiple roads and subways are closed due to waterlogging as the storm is expected to make landfall on the southern coast of Andhra Pradesh between Nellore and Machilipatnam today.

Traffic has been closed on Manjambakkam to Vadaperumbakkam Road due to the release of water from the Puzhal Lake, according to the police. In addition to the 8 reported deaths, the police have shared details of individuals who lost their lives as a result of the cyclone and its aftermath.

The police also stated that many families, including pregnant women, children, and senior citizens, were rescued from different areas affected by the cyclone. They also informed about the subways closed due to waterlogging and the removal of fallen trees at 58 places in the GCP limit.

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin inspected the Cyclone affected areas in the state on Tuesday and stressed the government’s efforts to reduce and prevent loss of life. Relief operations are in full swing with thousands of workers from other districts moving to Chennai for mitigation works.

Several areas in Chennai were inundated due to heavy rainfall, and Chennai Airfield remains closed for arrival and departure operations. The Indian Meteorological Department provided updates on the cyclone’s location and expected impact, including the likelihood of it crossing south Andhra Pradesh with a maximum wind speed of 90-100 Kmph.
