Hyderabad: During Monday’s GHMC general body meeting, corporators from the Congress and BRS joined forces to criticize private agencies and officials with close ties to former chief secretary Somesh Kumar and former MA&UD special chief secretary Arvind Kumar, regardless of political affiliations.
They specifically called out private players who were awarded contracts for street lights and advertisements, highlighting irregularities and targeting the town planning wing.
Congress corporators who recently switched from the BRS expressed their long-suppressed frustration of over nine years.
A BRS corporator recounted the GHMC’s substantial payments to Re Sustainability Limited (formerly Ramky Enviro Engineers Ltd), despite having to “beg” the company for just one vehicle to clear garbage in her ward.
Former mayor Bonthu Rammohan’s wife Sridevi, a Cherlapally corporator who recently joined the Congress from BRS, brought attention to the lack of sports facilities and poor sanitation. She also criticized the poor performance of Energy Efficiency Services Limited in street light maintenance.
Mayor G. Vijayalakshmi cautioned officials of strict action for ignoring phone calls from corporators, following a complaint from Vanasthalipuram BJP corporator R. Venkateshwar Reddy that “GHMC officers are treating the corporators worse than dogs.”
