Congress criticizes government for timing of announcement, Mamata Banerjee threatens to oppose act

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the government’s announcement, calling it BJP’s election publicity. She vowed to fight against any rules that deprive people of their rights.

The Congress criticized the timing of the Modi government’s decision to notify CAA rules, suggesting it was aimed at polarizing elections, especially in West Bengal and Assam.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh noted that the notification of the rules took over four years to be issued by the Modi government.

Mamata Banerjee expressed her concerns about the rules announced by the government, stating that if they threaten people’s rights, she will oppose them.

Jairam Ramesh highlighted that the government repeatedly extended the timeline for announcing the rules, suggesting a deliberate attempt to influence elections in West Bengal and Assam.

Arjun Munda, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, responded to Banerjee’s criticisms, emphasizing the government’s commitment to acting in the country’s best interests.
