Controversy Arises over DMK MP’s Comments on BJP Victory in Northern States’ Elections

Following the recent Assembly elections, BJP emerged victorious in three Hindi-speaking states.

DNV Senthil Kumar, MP of Tamil Nadu’s ruling party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), made controversial comments in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. He divided the country into two parts, referring to North Indian states as ‘Gomutra States’.

His remarks sparked controversy as he stated that the BJP can only win in northern states and not in south India, following the party’s victory in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.

Senthil Kumar’s comments were divisive, insulting to followers of Hinduism in North India, and sparked uproar. In the House, he enjoys certain privileges, but his comments could have legal implications outside of Parliament.

After facing backlash, Senthil Kumar expressed regret and retracted his statements on Wednesday.
