Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has taken the step of filing a petition in the High Court to challenge the nine summonses issued to him by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the alleged excise policy scam.
The matter will be heard by a division bench of the high court on Wednesday.
The ED’s ninth summons required CM Kejriwal to appear on March 21. On March 16, a magisterial court granted him bail in complaints filed by the ED for not complying with the agency’s summons in a money laundering case related to the excise policy case that has since been cancelled.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra of Rouse Avenue Court granted bail to the Chief Minister on a bail bond of Rs 15,000 and a surety of Rs 1 lakh.
In earlier summons, the ED had asked Kejriwal to appear before them on March 4 after he missed the seventh summons on February 22 and the sixth summons on February 19.
The ED had issued multiple summons to Kejriwal, including the fifth summon on January 31 and the fourth summon on January 13.
In response to the allegations, AAP leader and Delhi Cabinet Minister Atishi accused the ED of being used as a political tool by the BJP to target opposition parties like the AAP and make false accusations. She claimed that the accusations against Kejriwal have been dismissed by the Supreme Court due to lack of evidence.
