In a preview of the upcoming season, Pompeo reprises her role as Meredith Grey, despite not being listed as a series regular for the first time in the show’s history. The trailer shows Meredith seeking advice from her colleague Amelia and interacting with Miranda Bailey, who informs her that the interns are in trouble.
Pompeo had previously hinted that she was ready to move on from the show, but executives convinced her to stay with a generous salary offer. Despite her reservations, Pompeo will be making appearances on Season 20.
Reflecting on her decision to continue with the show, Pompeo explained that she feels it’s time to mix things up and try something new after 19 years of Grey’s Anatomy. She likens her departure from the show to going away to college.
