TL;DR X, which was previously known as Twitter, is developing a new feature called Enhanced Discovery. This feature will enable users to find similar posts that are related to the topic of a particular post. X is also working on introducing audio and video calls to their social media platform.
X, formerly known as Twitter, has been making several changes recently. They have been focused on monetizing the platform, with more features being available only to X Premium subscribers (previously known as Twitter Blue). We have found evidence of a new X Premium feature called Enhanced Discovery, as well as indications of audio and video calls being added to the app.
In the latest beta version of X for Android, we have discovered new strings that highlight the upcoming Enhanced Discovery feature. Here are some examples of the HTML-tagged code:
<string name=”similar_posts_blue_upsell_description”>Similar posts lets you find relevant content related to the subject matter of a post</string>
<string name=”similar_posts_blue_upsell_negative_button”>Maybe later</string>
<string name=”similar_posts_blue_upsell_positive_button”>Get more info</string>
<string name=”similar_posts_blue_upsell_title”>Subscribe to Premium to unlock enhanced discovery</string>
<string name=”similar_posts_empty_state_description”>No Similar posts found</string>
<string name=”similar_posts_empty_state_title”>Try again later</string>
<string name=”similar_posts_title”>Similar posts</string>
These strings, with the inclusion of the term “blue_upsell” (implying a Twitter Blue-paywalled feature), suggest that the Enhanced Discovery feature may be limited to X Premium users. This feature will allow users to find relevant content related to the subject of a post. However, it is unclear how this “relevant content” will be determined based on the available information. Currently, users can find similar posts through the use of hashtags, the Explore page, or by utilizing X’s Advanced Search tools and relevant keywords.
Furthermore, the latest beta version also contains several strings related to audio calls and video calls, indicating that these features will be introduced in the near future. Here are some examples of the HTML-tagged code:
<string name=”av_broadcast_ended_audio_call_ended_less_than_1hr”>Audio call ended {event_time} ⋅ {minutes}m{seconds}s</string>
<string name=”av_broadcast_ended_audio_call_ended_less_than_1min”>Audio call ended {event_time} ⋅ {seconds}s</string>
<string name=”av_broadcast_ended_audio_call_ended_more_than_1hr”>Audio call ended {event_time} ⋅ {hours}h{minutes}m</string>
<string name=”av_broadcast_ended_audio_call_generic”>Audio call {event_time}</string>
<string name=”av_broadcast_ended_audio_call_missed”>Missed audio call {event_time}</string>
<string name=”av_broadcast_ended_video_call_ended_less_than_1hr”>Video call ended {event_time} ⋅ {minutes}m{seconds}s</string>
<string name=”av_broadcast_ended_video_call_ended_less_than_1min”>Video call ended {event_time} ⋅ {seconds}s</string>
<string name=”av_broadcast_ended_video_call_ended_more_than_1hr”>Video call ended {event_time} ⋅ {hours}h{minutes}m</string>
<string name=”av_broadcast_ended_video_call_generic”>Video call {event_time}</string>
<string name=”av_broadcast_ended_video_call_missed”>Missed video call {event_time}</string>
<string name=”av_call_calling”>Calling…</string>
Elon Musk, the owner of X, has previously announced the addition of audio and video calls to the platform. It is currently unknown when these features will be made available. We have reached out to X for a comment and will update our article once we receive a response. However, it’s worth noting that emails sent to the previous press@twitter.com address are currently met with a “Busy now, please check back later.” reply.
X has also recently introduced a feature that allows X Premium users to restrict commenting on specific posts to other X Premium users only. Non-paying users can still read the replies to the post but cannot add their own comments. The platform has also removed rich preview cards for external URLs, and now displays a simpler image and website name when an external link is posted on X.
