First look: Apple Intelligence revealed in the new iOS 18.1 beta 1 release

The first betas for Apple’s iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 have been released for developers. These betas introduce Apple Intelligence features such as writing tools, transcript summaries, and updated Siri. Unfortunately, there is no public beta available at this time, so only registered developers can access these new features.

To participate in the beta rollout, users will need an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or iPad with M1 chip or newer. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are excluded from this release due to their lower amount of RAM. Apple Intelligence requires a minimum of 8GB of RAM, while these models only have 6GB.

To request access to Apple Intelligence, users must navigate to Settings, find the Apple Intelligence menu, and join the waitlist. Once approved, they will have access to features like writing tools, Siri updates, Mail enhancements, Focus mode, Photos search functions, and Transcriptions summaries.

While this beta release includes many Apple Intelligence features, there are still more to come later this year and next year. Some of these upcoming features include Genmoji, ChatGPT integration, and on-screen awareness for Siri.
