Google is introducing a new Gmail Q&A feature powered by Gemini to the Gmail app on Android devices. This feature allows users to search their inboxes and find answers to questions about their emails. Similar functionality is already available on the desktop version of Gmail with a Gemini-powered sidebar.
Google has been incorporating its AI model, Gemini, into more of its apps, such as the default smart assistant on Pixel 9 phones and various Google Workspace apps. Gmail recently received Gemini integration, first with a “summarize email” button on the app, followed by a Gemini side panel on the web. This feature allows users to summarize email threads, suggest replies, and answer questions based on inbox content.
The new Gmail Q&A functionality is now accessible on Android phones through a dedicated Gemini button. The feature will also be available on iOS in the near future. Users can access Gemini in the Gmail app by tapping the Gemini star in the top right corner or using the “summarize this email” button within an email. While it currently only searches through the inbox, Google plans to allow Gemini to access Google Drive soon.
Although the feature is still in its early stages, it shows promise in simplifying email management on mobile devices. The Q&A feature is rolling out today and may take up to 15 days to reach all eligible users. It is only available to Google Workspace customers with specified add-ons or those with the Google One AI Premium plan.
