In the Gmail for Android app, Google has recently introduced a new Gemini button with expanded features. This button now includes quick prompts for suggested actions, making it easier to navigate and manage your emails. Additionally, the Gemini button can be used for tasks such as searching within your mailbox and drafting emails.

Google continues to integrate its Gemini AI into various services, with plans for it to replace Google Assistant as the default digital assistant. The recent update to the Gmail app (version 2024.05.26.638440827) has enhanced the functionality of the Gemini button, offering new quick prompts like “Summarize this email,” “List the next steps,” and “Suggest a reply.” Users can also use the button for drafting responses, altering the tone of messages, and other tasks unrelated to emails.

Previously, the Gmail app had a limited “summarize this email” feature beneath the subject line. The new star-shaped Gemini button, located next to the archive button, expands the range of tasks that can be accomplished, making it a versatile tool for managing emails.
