The Google Pixel 9 is the first Google phone in the US to support call recording. Previously, the feature was disabled on Pixel phones regardless of region, despite the Phone by Google app supporting call recording. Now, with the introduction of the Call Notes feature on the Pixel 9, users can finally record phone calls.
While traditional phone calls are becoming less common, many institutions still rely on them for important communication. Recording phone calls on Android phones has been a challenge, as many devices don’t support this feature, including Google’s Pixel phones. With the Pixel 9 series, Google has introduced a new Call Notes feature that not only allows users to record calls but also transcribe and summarize them.
In the past, Android devices have faced legal restrictions when it comes to call recording. Google’s Phone by Google app does offer call recording, but the feature was disabled on Pixel phones in certain regions like the US. However, the new Call Notes feature on the Pixel 9 series changes this, allowing users to easily record, transcribe, and summarize phone calls using AI technology.
To activate Call Notes, users need to open the Phone by Google app, access Settings, and toggle on the “turn on Call Notes” switch. Once activated, Call Notes can be enabled during a phone call by tapping the overflow menu. Participants on the call are notified that the call is being recorded, and users can access the recording, transcript, and summary in the Phone by Google app.
Call recording on Pixel phones has been a highly requested feature, and the introduction of Call Notes on the Pixel 9 series addresses this need. However, it’s unfortunate that the feature is exclusive to the Pixel 9 series and may not be available on previous Pixel devices. Despite this limitation, Call Notes provides users with an official means to record phone calls on their Pixel 9 device.
