Amjad Al Rasheed’s debut film, “Inshallah a Boy,” portrays a conversation between a wife and husband about conceiving a second child. Adnan admits to his wife, Nawal, that he is the cause of their fertility issues before his untimely death.
Nawal, left to navigate the aftermath of Adnan’s death, tells a judge she is pregnant to prevent her brother-in-law from seizing their home. This sets the stage for the challenges she faces as a woman in a patriarchal society.
The film confronts not only gender dynamics but also economic tensions in a patriarchal system. Hawa’s portrayal of Nawal captures the struggles and vulnerabilities of a woman navigating limited options.
The ensemble cast, including Nawal’s brother Ahmad, Lauren, and Hassan, adds depth to the story and illustrates the fragile nature of Nawal’s alliances. The film sheds light on the complexities of relationships and societal pressures.
