Items from Prince’s wardrobe set to be auctioned off

Twenty years ago, Bertrand Brillois, a Parisian businessman, began reaching out to seamstresses, costume designers, fabric dyers, production assistants, and others who had worked for Prince. He expressed his admiration for Prince as a musical genius and fashion icon and expressed his desire to acquire clothing, jewelry, and accessories that were designed or worn by Prince.

Over the years, Mr. Brillois acquired numerous items, including an ankle-length white cashmere coat custom-made for Prince when he was filming the movie “Under the Cherry Moon” in 1986. This coat, along with over 200 other items, is part of the Fashion of Prince online auction, open for bids until Nov. 16.

The auction held by RR Auction also includes signature wardrobe items worn by Prince, such as a distinctive white silk shirt with elaborate ruffles, puffy sleeves, and faux pearl buttons. According to the auction company, Prince wore this shirt during a performance of “Purple Rain” at the American Music Awards in 1985.

The collection includes more than just outfits worn by Prince; it also features backstage Polaroid shots, handwritten notes by Prince, and master tapes of albums like “Lovesexy,” “Batman,” and “Diamonds and Pearls.”
