Miami Art Week is currently taking place in South Florida, headlined by Art Basel Miami Beach. The area has been home to parties featuring Janelle Monaé, Harmony Korine, and other well-known faces from the art world. The filmmaker and artist drew about 600 people, including the pop star Camila Cabello, to a sprawling nightclub adorned with red neon lights. Many were introduced for the first time to Korine’s new design collective, Edglrd. The evening included D.J. sets, performances, and a public debut by Korine as a D.J.
Artist Mickalene Thomas was the focus of an event at the Miami Beach Edition hotel, with guests including Janelle Monaé. Attendees enjoyed a party around the pool area on the evening before Art Basel Miami Beach opened, in an event inspired by Italy’s Le Sirenuse hotel.
The exclusive party attended by more than 600 people was hosted by Gagosian at the Freehand Miami, and modeled after the energy of Italy’s Le Sirenuse hotel. Attendees enjoyed an event featuring entertainment by a D.J. and offerings of champagne, margaritas, and dishes like fried oysters, tacos, and ceviche. Additionally, the event offered a chance to see work by actor and artist Jeremy Pope. Artist Chloe Wise, who planned to celebrate her birthday, spoke to the American consumerist nature and the humorous and meaningful space she finds herself in while participating in Art Basel Miami Beach.
