Julia Stiles Reenacts Iconic ‘Save the Last Dance’ Scene on ‘SNL’: Recap

During the Saturday, December 9, episode of Saturday Night Live, Chloe Fineman, a cast member of the show, showcased a reimagined version of Julia Stiles’ iconic ballet/hip-hop dance from her performance in Save the Last Dance. Fineman suggested that this dance would make a unique and intimate Christmas present for a significant other during a “Weekend Update” segment. Removing her festive Mrs. Claus dress, Fineman revealed a black leotard and sweatpants similar to the outfit worn by Stiles in the film.

The hosts and musical guests of Saturday Night Live are usually the center of attention each week, but sometimes more famous faces steal the show. In a previous episode, Tyler Cameron made a cameo during Kim Kardashian’s hosting debut. This is just one example of memorable moments from the show.

During the segment, Fineman demonstrated the dance moves from Save the Last Dance and explained the movie’s plot to her co-anchors, Colin Jost and Michael Che. Julia Stiles herself made a surprise appearance to confirm that her character did, in fact, get into Juilliard at the end of the film. The segment ended with Stiles and Fineman performing the chair portion of the Save the Last Dance number as Jost expressed his approval and quoted the film.

Saturday Night Live airs on NBC Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET.
