Renowned Telugu director Koratala Shiva has been unable to find relief from the Supreme Court of India in his copyright dispute for his Telugu film ‘Srimanthudu’. He is currently embroiled in legal troubles stemming from a case filed against him by writer Sarath Chandra several years ago, and the recent ruling from the Supreme Court has not been in his favor.
Previously, Sarath Chandra alleged in the Nampally court that Koratala had plagiarized his story, originally published in the Swathi magazine, to create the movie “Srimanthudu.” As a result, the Nampally court issued orders to file criminal charges against Koratala.
In response, Koratala took the matter to the Telangana High Court. After a thorough examination of the evidence presented by Sarath Chandra and the report from the Writers Association, the Telangana High Court upheld the decision of the Nampally court. Subsequently, Koratala appealed in the Supreme Court.
After reviewing Koratala’s appeal, the Supreme Court bench decided that he must face charges in accordance with the rulings of the local courts. This legal dispute continues to unfold, overshadowing the work of the acclaimed director.
The director has gained recognition for blockbusters such as ‘Mirchi’ and ‘Janata Garage’, though he faced failure with ‘Acharya’. He is now seeking a comeback with his much-anticipated film ‘Devara’, featuring superstar Jr NTr and Jhanvi Kapoor in the lead roles.
