Hyderabad: The Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) issue caused chaos in the city on Wednesday as corporators from Congress and BRS leaders exchanged accusations.
BRS leaders demanded the implementation of LRS without any charges on the applicants. In a strong response, Congress leaders mentioned that the number of LRS applications skyrocketed from 1.5 lakh in 2015 to 25 lakh during the BRS administration. They highlighted that the BRS government issued a GO to regularize plots under the LRS scheme and collect fees from the applicants.
Meanwhile, female Congress corporators “cleansed” the area outside the GHMC head office with turmeric water and drew rangolis. They did this to show that the Congress government is committed to ending the corruption that occurred during the BRS era.
“Why didn’t former MA&UD Minister K.T. Rama Rao process LRS applications when they were in power,” asked Cherlapally ward corporator Bonthu Sridevi.
Khairatabad corporator P. Vijaya Reddy mentioned that despite Rama Rao calling for a protest on Wednesday, only a few MLAs from the city showed up at the GHMC head office as many were planning to join the Congress.
Congress floor leader Daripally Rajashekar Reddy, representing Lingojiguda, stated that the BRS left the state bankrupt, while Borabanda corporator Baba Fasiuddin claimed that the BRS government stripped Telangana of its assets.
BRS leaders who participated in the protest included city MLAs Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Maganti Gopinath, and K.P. Vivekanand. They also protested outside the HMDA office in Ameerpet.
