Mahua Moitra objects to the lack of a referral order for CBI PE on Lokpal website

Officials have stated that the CBI has initiated a preliminary enquiry against the Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP based on a reference from anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal.

TMC MP Mahua Moitra expressed that neither Lokpal has posted any referral order on its website as per the Lokpal Act, nor has the CBI released any official information, following the announcement of the preliminary enquiry against her.

“Hope Rs 13,000 crore Adani coal scam merits CBI PE before my witchhunt,” she further posted on X.

Officials have reiterated that the CBI has registered a preliminary enquiry against the Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP based on a reference from anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had filed a complaint against Moitra with the Lokpal, alleging that she accepted bribes in exchange for raising questions in Parliament. Dubey also accused Moitra of compromising national security for monetary gains.

There has not been any formal statement from either the CBI or the Lokpal regarding the issue.

The Ethics Committee of Lok Sabha, which was investigating the allegations against Moitra, has submitted its report. The report will be presented in the upcoming Winter Session of the Lok Sabha.

According to officials, the CBI has initiated a preliminary enquiry, which is the first step in determining if the allegations warrant a full investigation. If enough evidence is found during the preliminary enquiry, the CBI can convert it into an FIR.

Dubey had accused Moitra of targeting the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in her questions in Lok Sabha at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts. Moitra has denied any wrongdoing and claimed that she was being targeted for raising questions about the Adani group’s deals.
