Meeting at Nagarjunasagar Reservoir Postponed to December 6, Andhra Pradesh Urged to Stop Water Release

A high-level meeting was conducted on Saturday with officials from the Central Water Commission (CWC), Ministry of Jal Shakti, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Krishna River Management Board (KRMB). However, no significant decisions were reached during the meeting. The Telangana Government requested a postponement of the discussion due to vote counting scheduled for Sunday.

At the meeting, the Committee urged the Andhra Pradesh Government to cease the release of water from the right canal. The KRMB was instructed to make a decision on the water release request submitted by Andhra Pradesh by December 4. Andhra Pradesh also presented its drinking water requirements to the committee.

The Central Government made the decision to transfer the management of both the Nagarjunasagar and Srisailam dams to the KRMB in order to prevent future conflicts between the two states. However, the Telangana Government opposed this decision and preferred that any issues be resolved through discussions. Despite this, the Andhra Pradesh Government unilaterally released water by deploying its police force on the barrage.
