A day after two of its MPs were suspended from the Lok Sabha, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction led by Sharad Pawar on Wednesday took to the streets to protest the development.
NCP MPs Supriya Sule, who represents Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, and Amol Kolhe, who represents Shirur, were among the 141 Opposition leaders suspended from the Parliament for allegedly creating a ruckus in the House. The Opposition was demanding a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the December 13 Parliament security breach.
The NCP staged a protest at Warje in Baramati led by city unit chief Prashant Jagtap, along with former corporator Sachin Dodke and other local leaders.
“The suspension of the MPs from Lok Sabha is nothing but injustice done to the voters of the constituencies the MPs are representing. It is the last Parliament session of the current five-year term as elections are around the corner. The MPs have to raise the issues of their constituency in Parliament but the ruling BJP is prohibiting it by getting the MPs suspended,” said Jagtap.
The NCP raised slogans against the BJP government and carried placards on the alleged injustice meted out by the Union government.
Jagtap said the BJP has been behaving dictatorially, disrespecting the voters who have elected the representatives of Opposition parties. Similar protests will be carried out in different parts of the city, he added.
