New Skills Added to Google Chrome’s Address Bar

Google Chrome’s address bar is receiving upgrades that enhance its features and speed. These updates include searching within bookmarks folders, typo correction, site suggestions, and smarter autocompletion. Some updates are already available, while others will be rolled out in the coming months.

One notable upgrade is the introduction of popular site suggestions, which will provide recommendations in the address bar even if you haven’t visited them before. It is unclear whether this feature will be used for advertising purposes or if it will genuinely suggest helpful and relevant websites to users. This feature is currently available on both desktop and mobile versions of Chrome.

Another improvement addresses sloppy typing skills. Chrome will now understand your intended destination, even if you mistype a site’s URL. Previously, users had to clear the error or start over, but this is no longer necessary.

Additionally, Chrome’s smarter autocompletion feature has been enhanced to quickly recognize the website you want to visit after just a few keystrokes. It now disregards typos and suggests sites beyond your search history. This feature is initially being introduced on desktop.

A quality of life change has also been made to the physical layout of the Chrome address bar, making it “easier to read” and “more responsive” according to Google.

Lastly, Chrome now allows you to search within your bookmarks folders by typing the name of the folder in the address bar. This is a beneficial change for users with numerous folders.
