President Zail Singh urged the people of the country to refrain from fighting amongst themselves and instead resolve all issues through negotiations, even if the process is slow and challenging. Singh emphasized the importance of national unity, especially due to the intentions of foreign powers who are envious of India’s progress and seek to destabilize the country.

Tarsem Singh Purewal, the editor of the Punjabi weekly Des Pardes published from England, was taken into custody by the Punjab police from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) for deportation to London.
