Finding and keeping track of new Android apps can be challenging, but we’ve done the hard work for you. We’ve searched the internet to find the best new Android apps from the past month that offer something different from the norm.

The top new Android apps from October 2023

Cloaked
Price: $10 monthly
Cloaked is a unique Android app that solves the problem of using a single identity across multiple apps and services. Acting as a cloak, Cloaked allows you to create cloaked IDs that hide your actual email address. It also conceals usernames and phone numbers, so any communication sent through these identities will go through Cloaked. While this may not be useful for services you trust, it provides an intriguing solution for services you don’t frequently use or that are known to be less secure. Cloaked is not free, as there is a $10 monthly premium to access the service, but you can try it out with a two-week free trial before committing.

Google Magnifier
Price: Free
Google Magnifier is currently only available for Pixel smartphones, but we hope it will be available for more Android devices soon. This app is surprisingly helpful, even with its simple premise. Magnifier allows you to enlarge text, regardless of its size. It lets you read text from a distance, such as menus on a wall, airport signs, street signs, and more. Although the app is currently limited to Pixels, if you recently purchased a Pixel 7 series or Pixel 8 series, give it a try.

Kvaesitso Launcher
Price: Free
Since the sale of Nova Launcher last year, many users have been searching for alternative launchers. I used to be a loyal Nova user, but this week, I came across Kvaesitso Launcher and decided to give it a chance to impress me. While it has been around for a while, this free and open-source launcher has seen significant development in recent months. Kvaesitso is a hybrid of Nova and Niagara, offering a clean home screen that prioritizes the wallpaper. Scroll down to access the apps tray containing all your installations or scroll up to find built-in and third-party widgets. I personally enjoy the emphasis on vertical navigation, but those who use multiple screens may feel slightly limited.

Moodistory
Price: Free / $3.49 monthly / $14.99 annually
Moodistory is a visually appealing mood tracking app that keeps things simple. Once you get through its detailed tutorial, you can log moods on your chosen scale, add activities, and even include notes and photographs. You can also create data backups of your mood logs to import into supported apps and services or create a PDF color board of your monthly mood logs for safekeeping or journaling. The app’s core features are free, but there is a premium tier available for purchase that unlocks more colors, additional notification slots, and a lock feature.

Page Pots
Price: Free
Page Pots is another delightful app, offering a solution for those who struggle to find motivation to read. Similar to Forest, the more you read, the more cute plant pots (based on real plants) you can add to your collection. The app also allows you to set daily and weekly reading goals and visualizes your progress. All data is kept on your device, and you can import your Goodreads library into the app. Although it is a relatively new Android app with only a few hundred users and limited availability in many countries, it’s definitely one to watch out for.

ReadYou
Price: Free
ReadYou is an excellent RSS reader that surpasses the likes of Inoreader and Feedly in terms of simplicity and readability. It has a clean and user-friendly UI and can import feeds from OPML files or URLs. Additionally, it offers notification support for individual feeds. While other readers can be overly complicated, ReadYou strikes the right balance between functionality and simplicity.

YouTube Create
Price: Free
We’re concluding this month’s roundup with two video editing apps. The first one is from Google. YouTube Create is a new free tool that allows you to trim longer videos into Shorts or edit longer videos on the go. It provides a wide range of content, including GIFs and royalty-free music, which you can apply to your clips and videos. It also offers various video editing features, such as trimming and special effects. While it is not widely available yet, you can access its beta version by following the link below.

Vaux
Price: Free / $4.99 monthly / $41.99 annually / $125 lifetime unlock
Next is Vaux, a relatively new video editing app that offers a wide range of features. It has an easily navigable home page with a unique tear-off animation that separates video and audio tools. Vaux goes beyond Create by allowing you to merge different videos, convert formats, and create GIFs from video clips. It also includes modest audio editing tools. The app is free to use, but subscription options offer an ad-free experience and additional features like adding lyrics to music videos, selecting output quality for merged videos, and more.
