Pawan Kalyan and TDP escalate fight for Pithapuram MLA seat

In Kakinada, Jana Sena Party (JSP) president Pawan Kalyan stated that he would run for Lok Sabha polls from Kakinada if requested by Amit Shah, causing unease within TDP, his alliance partner. Initially, he had planned to run from Pithapuram for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections.

On Tuesday, Pawan Kalyan nominated Uday Srinivas Tangella as the JSP Lok Sabha candidate from Kakinada but hinted that he might switch places if the Centre wanted him to contest in the Lok Sabha elections. This decision was met with dissatisfaction by TDP’s Pithapuram constituency incharge, former MLA SVSN Varma.

Varma expressed his disappointment and announced that he would run as an MLA from Pithapuram if Pawan Kalyan decided to switch from Assembly to Lok Sabha polls. His supporters created chaos in Pithapuram by burning TDP flexis and banners on March 14, 2024, following Pawan’s announcement.

Later, Varma met with Chandrababu Naidu to assure him of his support towards the alliance and ensuring Pawan Kalyan’s victory despite not receiving a ticket himself. Meanwhile, Kakinada MP and YSRCP Pithapuram candidate Vanga Geetha criticized Pawan Kalyan for suggesting that she run as a JSP candidate.

Pawan Kalyan had proposed that Geetha should run under JSP due to her past success with a Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) ticket in 2009. In response, Geetha questioned the implications if she also invited Pawan to YSRCP, emphasizing her political experience and the support she has from her constituents.
