PM Modi describes deepfakes as a significant danger and references the altered Garba video as an example.

Before the prime minister’s manipulated Garba video, there have been several deep fake videos circulating on social media featuring altered faces of actors Rashmika Mandanna, Katrina Kaif, and Kajol.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Friday that deep fakes are one of the biggest threats facing the Indian system. He also warned that deep fakes can cause chaos in society and urged the media to educate people about this growing concern.

During a Diwali Milan Program at BJP’s headquarters, Modi addressed the journalists and emphasized the need for both media and citizens to be aware of the exploitation of Artificial intelligence for deep fakes.

The Prime Minister highlighted how deep fakes are challenging the integrity of electoral democracy, making it difficult to differentiate between what is real and what is fake.

During the event, PM Modi shared that he had asked the ChatGpt team to flag deep fakes and provide warnings when such videos surfaced online.

He also addressed the deep fake video of him dancing Garba, stating, “I recently saw a video in which I was seen playing Garba. I have not done Garba since school.”

Prior to the prime minister’s manipulated Garba video, there have been various deep fake videos on social media featuring altered faces of actors Rashmika Mandanna and Katrina Kaif.

Last week, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology issued an advisory to social media platforms outlining the legal provisions and penalties surrounding deep fakes and their circulation.
