Protest for separate Koshal state: Western Odisha observes bandh | India News

The Koshal Rajya Milita Karjyanushtan Committee observed a 12-hour shutdown, demanding a separate ‘Koshal’ state, which partially affected normal life in 11 districts in the western part of Odisha on Saturday.

Most shops and commercial establishments were closed in these 11 districts, and public transportation also came to a halt due to road blockades staged by Koshal Mukti Morcha activists on the national highway (NH) and major roads. The activists have been advocating for a separate Koshal state, alleging neglect from the Odisha government in various fields.

The shutdown was ineffective in Sambalpur town, a major commercial hub, as outfits like Hirakhand Sammukhya and Sambalpuri Bhasa Sanskruti Parishad opposed the bandh call.

The bandh had a total impact in districts like Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Sundargarh, Bargarh, and parts of Sambalpur.

According to the police, the bandh was peaceful, and no untoward incidents were reported. Adequate security arrangements were made to prevent any major law and order situation.

Festive offer

Some politicians from the opposition parties in the western region extended their support to the demand for a separate Koshal state.
