Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal’s first production ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ set to debut at the Sundance Film Festival | Latest from Bollywood

Girls Will Be Girls, the first production from actor couple Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal, is scheduled to premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, the filmmakers announced on Thursday. Directed by Shuchi Talati, the film will be shown in the World Dramatic Feature category, one of 16 films selected for the competition section of the festival.

Set in a boarding school in a small Himalayan hill town in northern India, Girls Will Be Girls follows the story of Mira, a 16-year-old girl whose rebellious awakening is connected to her mother’s unfulfilled coming-of-age experiences.

Director Shuchi Talati expressed her delight in having her first feature selected at Sundance, calling it the Mecca of cinema. She highlighted the film’s rooted Indian ethos and its ability to resonate with people across continents.

Richa Chadha, along with Ali Fazal, emphasized their vision to tell unique stories through the launch of their production banner Pushing Buttons Studios in 2021. They expressed their excitement over the film’s inclusion in Sundance, validating their commitment to compelling storytelling.

Festive offer

The cast of the movie includes award-winning Malayalam film actor Kani Kusruti and Jitin Gulati, as well as newcomers Preeti Panigrahi and Kesav Binoy Kiron in lead roles. Ali Fazal described the project as a labor of love and hoped it would leave a lasting impact on the audience.

The film is an Indo-French official co-production, involving Pushing Buttons Studios, Blink Digital, Crawling Angel Films, and Dolce Vita Films.
