Sachin Dhas scores a century on his father’s birthday in Bloemfontein, named after Tendulkar

A few years ago, during an invitational U-19 tournament in Pune, Sachin Dhas showcased impressive six-hitting skills that caught the attention of the organisers. They even checked the width of his bat to ensure fair play, despite Dhas not being particularly strong or tall at the time. Dhas’ coach, Sheikh Azhar, shared this story with the Indian Express, and the present-day Dhas, about to turn 19, recently scored 116 in a match against Nepal, helping India secure a semifinal spot in the U-19 World Cup. Dhas had previously only faced a maximum of 20 balls in an inning, but in the last four matches, he has played significant roles as a finisher in the India team. Against Nepal, Dhas and Uday Saharan batted together, making a 215-run stand for the fourth wicket, while left-arm spinner Saumy Pandey helped India restrict Nepal to 165 for 9.

Sachin Dhas’ father, Sanjay Dhas, celebrated his 51st birthday, which coincides with Sachin’s 19th birthday, and expressed joy at his son’s success on his special day. Sanjay also revealed that he named his son after his second favorite cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar. Dhas, who wears jersey number 10 in admiration of Tendulkar, comes from a sports-oriented family, as his mother and father were both athletes at the state level. Sanjay credits coach Azhar for helping his son develop as a cricketer, citing his dedication to the game and his efforts to build turf wickets despite the water crisis in Beed.

Azhar’s hard work and dedication to training young cricketers have contributed to Dhas’ success, and Sanjay considers him like a son. The celebration for Dhas’ century was a triumphant moment for Azhar, who has cared for Dhas like his own son. During the tournament, Dhas demonstrated an understanding of teamwork, proving crucial for the India U-19 team. In summary, Dhas’ achievement highlights the impact of coaching and team support in his development as a cricketer.
