Amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday denounced all forms of terrorism and said that it is “against humanity”.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of ninth G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20), Modi said, “India has been facing cross-border terrorism for many years now. Around 20 years ago, terrorists targeted our Parliament at the time when the session was on. The world is also realising how big a challenge terrorism is for the globe… terrorism anywhere, in whatever manifestation, is against humanity.”
Stressing the importance of peace and brotherhood in a divided world, he added, “A world full of conflicts and confrontation cannot benefit anyone. A divided world cannot give solutions to the challenges before us. This is a time for peace and brotherhood, a time to move together, a time to move forward together. This is the time for development and welfare of all.”
The PM urged collective action during this time and said that “Parliaments across world have to think how we should work together to combat terrorism.”
During his address, PM Modi invited all delegates to India to witness the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. “In 2024, during the general elections, around 100 crore or 1 billion voters are going to cast their votes. I invite all the delegates to visit India to witness the next general elections,” the PM said.

The PM also underlined that the use of EVMs has boosted transparency and efficiency in the election process and results are now declared within hours of the start of counting of votes.
The event was attended by Speakers of Parliaments of G20 members and invitee countries. The Pan-African Parliament will take part in the P20 Summit for the first time after the African Union became a member of G20 at the New Delhi G20 Leaders’ Summit last month.
The thematic sessions during this P20 Summit will focus on four subjects of transformation in people’s lives through public digital platforms, women-led development, accelerating SDGs and sustainable energy transition.
