The Influence of Denmark’s Queen on Netflix’s “Ehrengard: The Art of Seduction”

Once upon a time, there was a princess in Denmark who had a passion for art. Despite being the eldest child of the reigning king, she couldn’t inherit the throne due to the country’s laws at the time. However, when the Danish constitution was amended in 1953, the princess became the presumptive heir after turning 13. She continued to pursue art throughout her teenage years and earned a diploma in prehistoric archaeology. Inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings,” she started drawing again. After her father’s death, she was crowned as Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. Despite her royal duties, she never abandoned her artistic passions. She has taken lessons in various media, taught herself new skills, and contributed to projects in the arts. Her paintings have been exhibited in museums, and her illustrations were used for a Danish translation of “The Lord of the Rings.” Recently, she served as the costume and production designer for a film called “Ehrengard: The Art of Seduction,” based on a fairy tale by Karen Blixen. The film, which premiered on Netflix, features wardrobes and sets based on her drawings and artworks. Queen Margrethe’s creative accomplishments continue to unfold, and she remains committed to her artistic endeavors alongside her duties as queen.
