A recent leak has revealed a multitude of new AI-powered Siri features that are expected to be unveiled at WWDC 2024. Siri is being enhanced to better handle complex tasks using natural language, but it is uncertain if all features will be launched simultaneously or gradually.
Apple Insider has provided a detailed leak sourced from individuals familiar with Apple’s AI initiative, highlighting various capabilities Siri will offer across more than a dozen first-party iPhone apps. Apple’s aim is to make Siri more robust and adept at understanding natural language voice commands. Apple has purportedly been training Siri to interpret and execute vague commands to cater to users who may not be familiar with precise command syntax.
The leak does not specify the technology powering these new Siri features, but possibilities include Apple’s internal large language model (LLM) codenamed “Ajax” or a collaboration with OpenAI utilizing ChatGPT.
Some notable new features include Siri controlling the camera, enhancing the Mail app with machine learning, offering advanced photo editing capabilities in Photos, providing webpage summaries in Safari, and enabling hands-free use in Voice Memos.
While Apple is likely to introduce some of these features at WWDC, not all are expected to be available until 2025. It is anticipated that these features will be gradually rolled out over the following months.
