The Gmail app on Android now includes a functional summarize feature powered by Gemini AI, which will be available to all users soon. Users can rate the email summaries generated by Gemini for quality feedback.
The Gmail app for Android is set to introduce email summarization with Google’s Gemini AI. The feature was recently activated by Assemble Debug, a reliable code sleuth, on version 2024.04.21.626860299 of the Gmail app. While users may not see this feature yet, its full functionality suggests a wider rollout is imminent. Google may potentially launch this feature during the upcoming I/O 2024 event, along with other announcements like the Pixel 8a.
With the new AI-assisted summarize feature in Gmail for Android, users can easily access quick summaries of their emails by tapping the “Summarize this email” button. This will be particularly useful for lengthy emails with extensive content. Users can rate the summary’s quality by using the thumbs-up and thumbs-down buttons, providing feedback to enhance Gemini’s summarizing capabilities. Additionally, there is an option to copy the summary to the clipboard for convenience.
