Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal is receiving positive reviews from various sources, but Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film is also facing criticism for ‘glorifying toxic men’. Tamil star Trisha faced backlash after calling the film ‘cult’ on social media.
Trisha took to her Instagram Stories on Sunday night to share a poster of Ranbir Kapoor’s film, and wrote, “One word- CULT! Pppppppaaaaaahhhhhhh (face with peeking eye, face exhaling and clapping hands emojis).”
The post did not go down well with many on social media. For the unversed, Trisha was recently in the news for calling out Mansoor Ali Khan for his rape comment. The actor deleted the post soon after, but the screenshots of her post were shared on social media. The actor was criticised for supporting the film that ‘glorifies toxic men’.
“Why are you glorifying this sh*t movie. Cult?!! Cult?! Seriously!? Even men are calling out but actresses are hyping this?! I can’t with this herd mentality. Women, just stop. Stop glorifying, hyping Animal movie,” wrote a user on Reddit. Another comment read, “Movies like Animal is what gives rise to people like Mansoor Ali Khan. The fact that Trisha of all people goes and wax lyrical about that movie is just all kinds of wrong.”

However, many also supported the actor. “Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But of course, some people who were waiting for a chance to launch a hate attack against her (the very same people who were silently supporting the awful guy who made sleazy comments about her publicly & is facing legal action) lapped this up. Poor Trisha had to delete it almost immediately. What kind of world is this where people have to live in fear and cannot even express their opinion on a movie they watched? P.S. Personally, I’m repulsed by the movie from the reviews itself and will probably never watch it. But that doesn’t mean I’ll play judge, jury, and executioner to others who liked the movie. It’s their choice. There are people who see it just as a film and like it. There are people who don’t. It’s a free world.”

Last month, Tamil actor Mansoor Ali Khan said in a crass comment that he was disappointed that he did not have a scene with Trisha in Leo, adding that they could have had a rape scene together which sparked outrage and Trisha also called him out. Though Mansoor apologized to Trisha, he later said that he would be filing a defamation case against the Ponniyin Selvan actor.
