Hyderabad: The Telangana Assembly functioned for only 30 minutes this morning before it was decided that all members, from both the ruling and opposition benches, would visit the Medigadda barrage in Manthani to assess the damage caused by cracks and shrinking.
During the Assembly session, IT minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu announced that based on reports from vigilance and dam safety officials highlighting construction faults and irregularities, the government had decided to take all MLAs to the barrage site to understand the construction failure.
As objections were raised by opposition leaders regarding the corruption allegations against the previous government, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy explained how the Pranahitha-Chevella project, initially estimated at Rs 38,500 crore, was redesigned by former CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao, escalating the cost to Rs 1,45,00 crore with the addition of three planned barrages.
Revanth Reddy emphasized that the explanations from the opposition regarding the barrage’s shrinking were not convincing, and urged all members to visit the site to understand the reality. As a result, the Speaker adjourned the House to Wednesday following Revanth Reddy’s announcement.
