Using a vacuum cleaner and rolling pin, this courageous woman successfully defended against Hamas

CNN reported that an Israeli woman and her daughter managed to survive a 12-hour siege by Hamas on their kibbutz by barricading themselves in a safe room using a vacuum cleaner and a rolling pin. This was just one of the incredible stories of survival that emerged following Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel. Irit Lahav, a resident of Nir Oz kibbutz, explained that when she learned about the attackers entering her community, she and her daughter sought refuge in the safe room as they were accustomed to bombings in the area. However, they found that the room, previously used as a bomb shelter, lacked a lock, leaving them vulnerable. Lahav desperately reached out to her family and other residents of the kibbutz for advice on how to secure the door. Eventually, her brother sent her a picture of how he had secured his door with broomsticks. Using a rolling pin and her vacuum cleaner, Lahav managed to create a makeshift barricade. As she assembled it, she heard the attackers trying to break into her home. Despite the fear, the vacuum cleaner and rolling pin held, and the attackers eventually left. However, they returned multiple times, causing additional moments of terror for Lahav and her daughter. Lahav estimated that 30% of the kibbutz residents either died or were kidnapped during the surprise attack. Also, CNN reported that Hamas fighters targeted and took hostage attendees at the Nova music festival near the Gaza-Israel border. Rafael Zimerman survived by hiding in a bunker and covering himself with bodies to avoid detection. Amir Ben Natan also survived by hiding in a bush and avoiding areas where others had been shot by the attackers. Israeli rescuers found approximately 260 bodies near the festival site following the attack.
